Thank heavens we read Welsh...oh, wait...

Linguist that I am, I will now translate the Welsh portion of the above sign, making use of my years of study of numerous foreign languages and also the photo caption in the original story:

"I am not in the office at the moment. Send any work to be translated."

(I think I may have posted this a couple of years ago but don't feel like hunting it down.)

Okay, I'm in a little better mood now, since I've seen...

...this video:

I may have just pissed both Dan Kirtane and Novera Khan off simultaneously for getting a good laugh out of some of the most ridiculous regularly-scheduled behavior on the planet; but, hey, if this keeps India and Pakistan from lobbing nuclear weapons at each other, I'm all for it.

UPDATE: I'm not sure this version isn't even funnier:

Oh, and by the way...

...tomorrow I officially join the Republican Party.

ObamaCare delenda est.

For the foreseeable future...

...every RedneckPeril post will end with the words "ObamaCare delenda est." And I don't give a damn whether it's a political post or not.

If you're a Democrat, or voted for Obama, I would very strongly advise you to avoid mentioning that fact in my presence for a while. As in, until further notice, like, years from now. I am generally a patient man who deals gracefully with people who disagree with me; but this, if it stands, is the end of everything that made America America, and that made it possible for me even to respect, much less love, my country. Not one single aspect of this contemptible, despicable legislation and the contemptible, despicable abominations who have forced it through is even remotely defensible.

Oh, and congratulations to the Jew-hating Muslim radicals of the Middle East, who I figure stand about a 90% chance of seeing Israel obliterated by an Iranian nuclear bomb before 2012 gives us a chance to vote out of office our President who so very clearly loves America's bitterest enemies and detests her oldest and truest friends.

ObamaCare delenda est.

I guess I should point out that Ace is taglining his posts this way already. I presume lots of people (at least, those of us who have anything remotely resembling a classical education) will arrive at the same idea independently.

Don't think I'm not serious about avoiding defending Obama or his minions in my presence for the foreseeable future.

ObamaCare delenda est.

I finally became a fan...

My name's on the list. Don't imagine for a moment that I'm joking.

The Sanest of Men

I found this to be a delightful article. And, no, it's not just for the sake of this passage:
We seem to have some need, for instance, for politicians, at least under our current system. Considered rationally, however, only a person who is somewhat deranged could ever possibly care enough about politics to want to participate in its processes. Anyone able to read a piece of legislation with interest is already a tad demented, and anyone willing to write a piece of legislation clearly suffers from a minor obsessive psychosis. So God bless them, but God spare us their derangement.

T’ao was entirely devoid of whatever spiritual malady or degeneracy of the soul it is that makes certain persons ambitious for political office.
I mean, granted, I join in on that passage with gusto. But I much prefer this:
The essence of mental and spiritual health is, after all, to care deeply about a very few, particularly precious, and intimately familiar things, and to regard the rest of reality with generous indifference.
Or this:
Hsien is not exactly detachment, since it flows most properly from genuine attachment to the right things, nor is it any kind of spiritual austerity. It is simply an inability to be agitated by trifles or distracted by irrational appetites, and the sublime capacity for total contentment in doing nothing when nothing is what needs to be done.
Or...actually, just go read it, okay?

Apparently I hit middle age right about the same time as puberty...

...or at least that's the conclusion I draw from this article.

There's A Simple Explanation Dept

A friend was pointing out something that struck him as odd, namely, a report on the web someplace that "women out-live men, but men out-sex women." His reaction was along the lines of, "Um...shouldn't they work out to be about the same?" There are several possible explanations for what the headline editor could be trying to communicate, but I think the most likely is simply this:

We're better at it than they are.

(Because, after all...we have to be.)

What disturbs me is that our nation's probation officers are apparently allowed to watch Jerry Springer.

As Dave puts it, there's classy, and then there's classy. Let's just say the story does not go downhill from its opening sentence, "A North Carolina man was sentenced to three days in jail for violating probation by leaving the state to appear on 'The Jerry Springer Show.'"

Things You'd Never Know If It Weren't For Scientists Dept

Darkness makes people think they can get away with being naughty.

Hat tip: Jesus of Nazareth, in John iii.19-20 Oops, I mean Dave.

And while I'm puttin' you the knowledge: did you know that scientists have also proved that men become more accident prone in front of beautiful women?

(I would be remiss if I didn't pass on a tag line from the Onion News Network, at the end of a story I won't link to on this non-politics blog because it makes rather deadly fun of a political figure adored by some of my Gentle Readers: "Moving on, a new report finds extramarital affairs cause happiness in scientists.")

Unemployment in New Zealand must be REALLY bad

Randy Guidry forwards:

"Most Descriptive Bug Fix Ever" Dept

My co-worker Karl (who provides the title for the post as well as the item) was going through a list of bug fixes and enhancements provided by a software vendor, in order to determine possible impact on our custom reports. He had just a little trouble doing an impact analysis on one particular item, whose description consisted entirely of the following line:

"An error occurring in an application upgrade script has been corrected."

Sure Would Like To Get Me Some Of That There Global Warmin' Dept

Based on a picture sent along by my mom, some of the folks up in West Virginia -- where the ground has been covered by snow without interruption for all but two days since mid-December -- are just about tired of winter. But before providing you with the evidence that desperation is setting in, here's a shot of my six-foot-two dad on his back porch:

Now for the evidence that some West Virginians are ready for spring to commence:
