Exhibit 3,222 of why being moral when fighting terrorists gets your guys killed

Not that it isn't a price you ought to pay, but still, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting to hear anything about this episode from the Israel/Hezbollah moral-equivalence crowd.

Key passages:

Israel left one passage open from the town so Hezbollah's besieged fighters could flee to the north and avoid a house-to-house fight that would devastate the remaining villagers.

But the militants apparently used the escape route to bring in reinforcements, officials said.

...

Hezbollah cut off the escape routes for the ambushed soldiers and Israel had great difficulty rescuing its wounded.

"Our men can hear the screams of their wounded calling for help," one Israeli source said.

In the postmortem analysis, Israeli brass decided to pound Bint Jbail as hard as possible without wiping out the remaining villagers.
And yet there are still moral cripples writing love poetry to Hezbollah (hat tip: The Anchoress).
